At the beginning of the eighties, the great Quincy Jones produced a string of soul/pop gems including the late Michael Jackson’s (1958-2009) mega-sellerThriller, George Benson’s Give Me The Night, the late Donna Summer’s (1948-2012) self-titled album, his own solo, The Dude, plus Patti Austin’s Every Home Should Have One. All those records became hits for the legendary music producer and his dream team of songwriters, arrangers and musicians that included the Toto guys, the late Rod Temperton (1949-2016), Jerry Hey and David Foster.

Jimmy Thudpucker was a fictional character created by Garry Trudeau for the legendary comic strip Doonesbury. In the strip, Thudpucker was a young singer/songwriter who went on to become a rock star. Eventually, Trudeau decided to translate his fiction into real life releasing Thudpucker music created with the support of good friends like guitarist Steve Cropper of Booker T & The MG’s fame and a very young David Foster.

In the early eighties, David Foster was already building a solid reputation among music lovers who didn’t just listen to their favorite music, but regularly hunted the albums’ liner notes looking for the names of musicians, songwriters and producers. His innovative, quality pop work received immediate recognition especially in Japan and Northern Europe. Consequently, the Canadian music-maker was one of the celebrated tunesmiths invited to appear on the 1982 Norwegian TV show, Songwriters For The Stars. Along with Foster, the show featured hit-makers Bruce Roberts, Roger Nichols, Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, Jimmy Webb and Rupert Holmes.
