LOOKING IN THE EYES OF LOVE

from IN BLUE (SPECIAL EDITION)

written by Kostas Lazarides & Tricia Walker

“Looking In The Eyes Of Love” was a country song co-written by renowned songwriter Kostas Lazarides and singer/songwriter Tricia Walker. It was originally recorded in 1990 by female country star Patty Loveless on her On Down The Line cd. In 1997, the song was covered by famous bluegrass act Alison Krauss & Union Station. Released as a single from the group’s third cd, So Long, So Wrong, that song won the group a Grammy Award as Best Country Performance by a Group or Duo with Vocal. “Looking In The Eyes Of Love” was also recorded by popular Irish pop band, The Corrs.

The four siblings recorded “Looking In The Eyes Of Love” with David Foster for their sophomore Talk On Corners cd. The song didn’t make the final cut for the cd, but was resurrected as a bonus track on a special edition of The Corrs’ third studio cd, In Blue. Foster’s trained ear heard the potential of the country song and served the group another ear-candy pop ditty that perfectly fit The Corrs’ style. On “Looking In The Eyes Of Love,” the Hitman crafted a gorgeous backing track with his classic adult pop feel and mixed it effectively with The Corrs’ Irish-flavored atmospheres. The group’s trademark vocal harmonies are in the spotlight with Andrea Corr beautifully handling the lead vocals while being backed up by minimal keyboards, percussions, guitars, violin and lush strings. “Looking In The Eyes Of Love” is also included on The Corrs’ retrospective cd, The Works. Released in 2007, The Works includes all the group’s best repertoire with many of their classic collaborations with Foster including “Runaway,” “Someday” and “Don’t Say You Love Me.” Previous reviews of these songs can be found in the archives.

Lyrics

I wonder should I tell you
About all the crazy things that I have done
I’ve been hiding all my life
When I should have stayed
I tried to run…

I was searching for an answer
In a world so full of strangers
But what I found was never really enough
Now that I’ve found you
I’m looking in the eyes of love (In the eyes of love)

Baby you’ve been good to me
Oh, so much more that you could know, yeah, yeah
I never thought that I would find
Someone who’s so sweet and kind
Like you…

Please believe me when I say
This time I won’t run away
I swear be all the heaven’s stars above
Now that I’ve found you
I’m looking in the eyes of love

Looking in the eyes of love…
I can see forever, yeah…
I can see you and me
Walking in this world together

Oh, my heart’s found a hope…
I’ve been dreaming of…
Now that I’ve found you
I’m looking in the eyes of love

Looking in the eyes of love…
I can see (forever), I can see forever
I can see you and me
Walking in this world together

Oh, my heart’s found a hope
I’ve been dreaming of…
Now that I’ve found you, I’ve found you
I’m looking in the eyes of love…, yeah

Oh…
