April 1994 witnessed the release of the debut cd by American pop/R&B vocal quartet, All-4-One. Jamie Jones, Alfred Nevarez, Delious Kennedy and Tony Borowiak delivered a one-two punch with their first two singles; “So Much In Love” that reached #5 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and was certified gold and “I Swear,” their #1 international smash.
“I Swear” was produced by David Foster, became a Grammy winner and was one of the most successful singles of the modern pop era by staying at the top of the chart for eleven weeks. It went on to sell over one million copies in the US to achieve platinum status and charted on the top position in the UK and several other countries. A past review of “I Swear” can be found here.
Foster crafted another ballad for All-4-One’s debut cd titled “Oh Girl.” Co-written by noted music-maker Gary St. Clair with band member Jamie Jones, “Oh Girl” was another killer track, a bit more on the R&B side compared to the pop atmosphere of “I Swear.” Co-writer Jones sung the warm lead vocals while being supported by the group’s impeccable vocal harmonies. Foster’s keyboard-driven arrangement was the usual state-of-the-art affair that considerably increased the level of catchiness of this composition. Thanks to the superior quality of the group’s vocals, the high level of the production and the top-value of the aforementioned songs, All-4-One became a Top Ten entry on Billboard’s Top 200 and was eventually certified platinum four times.
