The poignant ballad, “The Prayer,” holds the distinction of being the David Foster co-written song with the most covers. This evocative, orchestral tune was composed in 1999 by the Hitman with the legendary Carole Bayer Sager for the soundtrack of the animated movie,The Quest For Camelot. The original version was beautifully sung by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli and won a Golden Globe and received a nomination for an Academy Award.

David Foster first stepped into the world of TV talent shows in 2001 with his appearance on Popstars, a U.S. TV show that discovered, among others, the now-famous Nicole Scherzinger. In the following years, Foster had guest appearances on American Idol and was a judge on the 2006 Fox show Celebrity Duets alongside Little Richard and Marie Osmond. Given Foster’s huge popularity in Asia and his unmatched expertise, the Canadian super-producer was asked to join the panel of judges for Asia’s Got Talent with former Spice Girl Melanie C., singer Anggun and singer/actor Vanness Wu.

The Song of the Week again focuses on the milestone collaboration between Maurice White and David Foster that resulted in the now-classic 1979 album I Am. The young, gifted Foster added a fresh approach to Earth Wind & Fire’s trademark funk/soul musical universe. I Am offers some unforgettable hits including “After The Love Is Gone,” “In The Stone” and “Boogie Wonderland.” The entire recording was a powerful celebration of White’s superior genius enhanced by Foster’s innovative pop mind.

“Do What You Want, Be What You Are” was a song by the legendary pop/soul duo Daryl Hall and John Oates and originally included on their 1976 album Bigger Than Both Of Us. A beautiful ballad, Do What You Want, Be What You Are went on to be the title of Hall & Oates’ 2009 box set release for Sony Legacy. The four disc set presented all the duo’s big hits, selected album tracks plus previously unreleased demo recordings and live performances.
