THE BEST OF ME

from THE BEST OF ME/SAJE (single)
written by David Foster, Jeremy Lubbock & Richard Marx

Last week we mentioned “The Best Of Me” as one of David Foster’s trademark ballads and a very successful chapter of his golden songbook. Around 1982, Foster co-wrote the song with composer/arranger extraordinaire Jeremy Lubbock and the great pop/rocker Richard Marx. Marx was only nineteen years old then and worked as Foster’s studio assistant. Through the years, the charm of this sweet love song has attracted singers including Barry Manilow, Michael Buble, Kenny Rogers and Phil Perry. Yet the most successful rendition of the tune belongs to veteran UK superstar Cliff Richard who, in 1989, scored a #2 hit in his homeland with it.

END OF MAY from CRAZY LOVE: HOLLYWOOD EDITION

written by Tim Seely

Michael Buble’s worldwide smash “Crazy Love” had a special edition released October 2010 called “Crazy Love: Hollywood Edition.” Originally released a year earlier, “Crazy Love” was produced by David Foster, Bob Rock and Humberto Gatica and became a giant bestseller in many countries while collecting a slew of Grammy and Juno Awards. The new release included a new single, a breezy pop song produced by Rock entitled “Hollywood,” four live versions of Buble’s earlier material plus two unreleased songs originally produced by Foster on the “Crazy Love” sessions.

TAKE ME IN YOUR ARMS

from WALK A FINE LINE

written by David Foster & Paul Anka

“Walk A Fine Line” was released in 1983 and was one of the best albums of Paul Anka’s legendary career. The recording saw the veteran singer/songwriter joining forces with brilliant new minds of quality pop like Michael McDonald, Jay Graydon and David Foster. That meeting resulted in an elegant pop/rock collection crafted in the same musical vein as big sellers like Kenny Loggins’ “High Adventures” or McDonald’s “If That’s What It Takes.” Foster was one of dominant figures on the Anka sessions and co-wrote the two singles off the album – the romantic ballad “Hold Me ‘Til The Mornin’ Comes” and the catchy up-tempo “Second Chance.” Both songs were Adult Contemporary hits at #2 and #14 respectively. “Hold Me ‘Til The Mornin’ Comes” was a gorgeous duet with Peter Cetera and was the last Top 40 hit of Anka’s career.

ONE MORE TIME

Laura Pausini is Italian, a Grammy winner and an international superstar whose records have sold a whopping forty-five million worldwide. Other than in her home country, Pausini is especially popular in many parts of Europe and Latin America. She sings in Italian, of course, but also perfectly in Spanish, Portuguese, French and English. Thanks to her powerful and flexible voice, this gifted singer has won the attention of big names like Michael Bublè, the late Ray Charles and Luciano Pavarotti, Barbra Streisand, Andrea Bocelli and David Foster.
