from ONE WISH
written Diane Warren
One Wish,” released in 1998, was the sophomore release by Canadian R&B singer/songwriter, Deborah Cox. Her record label, Arista Records, tried to market her as the new Whitney Houston thanks to her impressive voice and gorgeous looks and even though she didn’t become a superstar, she did reach a good level of popularity with this album. “One Wish” was well received and eventually certified platinum while it also reached #14 on the R&B albums chart.
Cox’s success was fuel by her #1 monster single, “Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here” a catchy ballad that owned the top spot on the R&B chart for a few months. “One Wish” also sported another #1R&B single, the dramatic slower, “We Can’t Be Friends.” The album presented a who’s who of top producers and songwriters like Rodney Jerkins, Darryl Simmons, “Shep” Crawford, Stevie J. Jordan and David Foster. Foster was red-hot for his triumphs with Celine Dion and Houston so on “One Wish” he produced a Diane Warren ballad entitled, “One Day You Will” that was exactly in that radio friendly adult contemporary style that sold millions for those superstars. “One Day You Will” is a beautiful composition perfectly performed by Cox who showcases her great potential under Foster’s expert guidance.
Foster must have been quite impressed by Cox’s talent given that recently he enlisted her for his 2009 Foster & Friends tour along with other big names like Ruben Studdard, Richard Marx, Charice and Peter Cetera. On That special occasion, Cox beautifully performed several of Foster’s hits like “Un-break My Heart,” “The Prayer” and “Through The Fire.”

Lyrics
You don’t miss me now
You don’t miss me now
One day you will
Be walking down the street
And you’ll see someone and she will look a lot like me
And you’ll think about someone you left behind
And it will make you cry
One day you will
Be starting out your day
And you’ll look inside you coffee cup and see my face
And you’ll realize the sad mistake you made
And it will be too late
One day you’ll wonder why you ever said good-bye
And you will wish you were still right here by my side
But I won’t be around
You don’t miss me now
You don’t miss me now
One day you will
Never find a love like what we had
Never find someone like me again
Through the tears one day you’ll see
That the one you need is me
You’ll want me back again
You’ll want me back again
One day you will
Be driving in your car
And you’re gonna hear a song that’s gonna break your heart
And you’ll wish you’d said those words you didn’t say
It will be too late
One day you’ll wonder why you ever said good-bye
And you will wish you were still right here, right by my side
But baby I won’t be around
You don’t miss me now
You don’t miss me now
One day you will
Be walking down the street
And you’ll see someone and she will look a lot like me
And you’ll think about someone you left behind
And it will make you cry
You don’t miss me now
You don’t miss me now
[Repeat 2 x]
But one day you will
One day you will
