COMPLETELY

From THE ONE THING
Written by Diane Warren

Released in 1993, pop superstar Michael Bolton’s “The One Thing” can easily be considered the quintessential pop/AC album of the 90s. The bulk of the record is made of touching, heart wrenching power ballads with a few polished up-tempo rockers and R&B-flavored moments. The material was almost completely co-written by the singer with usual partners like Walter Afanasieff, Diane Warren and Desmond Child. Afanasieff also handled the production duties together with a couple of studio superstars, Robert John “Mutt” Lange and David Foster. Foster, who was largely responsible for the huge success of 1992’s #1 “Timeless (The Classics),” came back to work with Bolton on two ballads. The first, “Completely,” is a Warren original that became the album’s second hit single. The second, “In The Arms Of Love,” is a collaboration between Bolton, Warren and Child. Both songs are intense and evocative with solid, trademark arrangements by Foster who builds a rich musical background with elegant orchestra work. This setting is perfect for the singer who was given plenty of room to soar high and powerful with his unmistakable singing. “Completely” offers the listener an effective refrain that flows into a strong, emotional climax. On this song, as well as the rest of the album, Bolton always delivers with power and class. Other tunes on the record we recommend are the hit “Said I Love You But I Lied,” a nice cover of Bill Withers’ “Lean On Me,” and, in particular, another tasteful ballad, “Never Get Enough Of Your Love.” This release was quickly certified triple platinum and reached #3 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart.

Lyrics

Completely wanna give my love
Completely
I’d rather be alone than be in love half the way
I want to find someone that I can trust completely
Wanna give my heart completely
To someone who’ll completely give their heart to only me
And when I find that one
That’s when I’ll fall in love

Completely
Not half but whole
With heart and soul
Completely not in between
But everything
Completely
That’s the way it’s got to be
The way I want someone to fall in love with me

Forever wanna feel the word
Forever
And know there’ll be somebody forever by my side
And when that feeling comes
That’s when I’ll give my love

Completely
Not half but whole
With heart and soul
Completely not in between
But everything
Completely
That’s the way it’s got to be
The way I want someone to fall in love with me

It’s all or nothing for this heart of mine
And I won’t give up this heart till the day I find
Somebody who can be
Someone who loves me

Completely
Not half but whole
With heart and soul
Completely not in between
But everything
Completely
That’s the way it’s got to be
The way I want someone to fall in love with me

Completely…
