LUCK BE A LADY

from BACK TO BROADWAY
written by Frank Loesser

The summer of 1993 witnessed the release of “Back To Broadway,” Barbra Streisand’s 50thalbum for Columbia Records. As the title suggests, “Back To Broadway” was the superstar’s sequel to her 1985 multi-platinum milestone “The Broadway Album.” David Foster, who collected a Grammy for his stratospheric production of “Somewhere” on “The Broadway Album,” returned to the control room for “Back To Broadway.”

LOVE FLOWS

from PAST TO PRESENT – THE 70S
written by David Foster, Jay Graydon & Harry Garfield

This week, we go back to the late seventies and “Love Flows,” a little-known yet gorgeous collaboration between David Foster and Jay Graydon. This sweet love song remained in Graydon’s vaults until 2006 when the super-producer finally released “Past To Present – The 70s.” Graydon’s cd was a compilation that included many demo treasures recorded in the second half of 1970 by the former Airplay member and right before his big break with Al Jarreau and The Manhattan Transfer.

PALE FIRE

from TOM THUMB THE DREAMER
written by Michael Dinner

Michael Dinner was an American singer/songwriter who released a couple of good albums in the mid-seventies that were commercially unsuccessful. Dinner’s style was reminiscent of popular names like Jackson Browne, The Eagles and Danny O’Keefe with solid country/rock songwriting mixed with a refined, pop/rock instrumental back-up.

THROUGH THE FIRE

from FROM E TO U: VOLUME 1
written by David Foster, Tom Keane & Cynthia Weil

The end of May 2014 saw a special Japanese-only release by R&B star Eric Benet entitled “From E To U: Volume 1.” This project is a collection of pop and soul covers of hit songs from the likes of Hall & Oates, Christopher Cross, Journey, Earth, Wind & Fire and several others. Those who loved Benet’s great reworking of the Toto classic “Georgy Porgy” or his 2005 David Foster-produced cd “Hurricane” already witnessed the singer’s passion for quality pop and soul music of the late seventies and early eighties. “From E To U: Volume 1” reinforces this commitment with a handful of elegant songs modernized by Benet with his longtime collaborator Demonte Posey.
