CAN’T FIND THE JUDGE

from THE DREAM WEAVER

Written by Gary Wright

“I think Gary [Wright] saw the future… and, of course, ‘Dream Weaver’ sort of sounds like the future with all those fluttering synthesizers in the background. I swear, that record sounds as good today as it did almost 50 years ago.” David Foster recently made this statement to the Los Angeles Times right after Wright’s passing on September 4, 2023. “Dream Weaver” was a huge hit single in 1976. Foster makes a solid contribution to both the single and its parent album, The Dream Weaver.

YOU REMIND ME OF A FRIEND

from SKYLARK 2

Written by Brian & Brenda Russell

This week we go back to David Foster’s first steps into the music biz as co-founder and driving force of the pop/rock band, Skylark. Skylark released two interesting albums in the first half of the seventies that introduced Foster’s blooming talents to the music world. Skylark included Foster’s first wife, singer/songwriter B. J. Cook, and the wonderful soul singer Donny Gerrard (1946-2022) who was remembered for the 1973 hit ballad, “Wildflower.” That song was a top ten hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 and the Canadian Top Singles charts. “Wildflower” was a huge adult contemporary hit. Since the rise on the charts, “Wildflower” has became an evergreen with multiple recorded versions.

Produced mostly by Groban’s mentor, David Foster, Closer was a #1 smash hit and eventually sold over 6 millions copies in the US alone. The inspirational hymn, “You Raise Me Up,” was the first single off this album. It became a huge adult contemporary hit and was a trademark song for Groban with hundreds of subsequent covers.
