MISS YOU

from FRENCH TOUCH

Written by Mick Jagger & Keith Richards

“Miss You” was a fantastic, disco-influenced anthem by the legendary Rolling Stones. Co-written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, “Miss You” was the first single released from the band’s 1978 Some Girls album. The song was an instant smash reaching #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and selling more than one million copies in the US alone. “Miss You” went to #3 on the UK Singles chart and became a huge worldwide hit.

In 2017, almost forty years later, Carla Bruni, the famous French/Italian top model and singer/songwriter, was selecting songs for her next cd, French Touch, to be produced by David Foster. Among the songs that France’s former premiere dame picked for the project was a reworking of “Miss You.” Foster reinvented the classic Stones track by slowing down the tempo and he gave the song an irresistible Latin feel. Foster’s rewrite made Ms. Bruni feel at home by complimenting her soft, sensual voice. Foster’s version of “Miss You” was based on percussions and Spanish guitars with some evocative strings and horns arranged by Foster with the great Chris Walden. As already noted, Ms. Bruni’s voice really shone on this number. Her smoky vocal and sultry phrasing made for total ear candy.

French Touch was one of the last productions Foster did for Verve before leaving the label and eventually retiring from the studio. The French Touch album has several points of interest. The Hitman adjusted his usual production style with a simpler sound and less production that fit with Ms. Bruni’s voice. French Touch was a solid Top 15 hit in France and charted in several other European countries.

Lyrics

I’ve been holding out so long
I’ve been sleeping all alone
Lord I miss you
I’ve been hanging on the phone
I’ve been sleeping all alone
I want to kiss you

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, yeah

Well, I’ve been haunted in my sleep
You’ve been starring in my dreams
Lord I miss you
I’ve been waiting on the hall
Been waiting on your call
When the phone rings
It’s just some friends of mine that says

Aah, aah, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, yeah

Aah, aah, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, yeah

Ooh, baby why you wait so long
Ooh, baby why you wait so long
Don’t you, come on! come on now!

Wanna move tu me manque, tu me manque, tu me manque
While I’ve been walking in Central Park
Singing after dark
People think I’m crazy
I’ve been stumbling on my feet
Shuffling through the street
People ask me, what’s the matter with you girl?

Hey, what’s the matter girl?
I’m here with some Puerto Rican friends that’s just dying to meet you
We will bring a case of wine
Let’s make some fool around like we used to

Ooh, baby why you wait so long
Ooh, baby why you wait so long
Don’t you, come on! come on now!

I guess I’m lying to myself
It’s just you and no one else
Lord I miss you (tu me manque, tu me manque)
You’ve been blotting out my mind
Fooling on my time
No, I miss you, baby, yeah

Oh Lord, I miss you child
Ooh Lord, I miss you child

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
