ORBITING

from ELEVEN WORDS

Written by David Foster

In the spring of 2020, during the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, David Foster released Eleven Words, a gorgeous collection of instrumental themes performed at the piano with just minimal string accompaniment. The soothing music included was perfect to give listeners a welcome moment of calmness while living such difficult and unexpected days. Foster’s goal was to focus on his heartwarming melodies without any lyrics or flamboyant production. One of our personal favorites from Eleven Words and the Song of the Week is the delicate piece “Orbiting.”

Here, Foster’s piano, with just some evocative strings, creates an emotional musical landscape with a waltz that truly transcends time and space. This poignant song leaves a deep sense of tranquility.

Eleven Words was recently nominated for a Juno Award as Instrumental Album Of The Year. This marks Foster’s 25th Juno nod with five wins plus two special Juno’s for the 1998 induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the 2019 Humanitarian Award. Eleven Words also brought Foster the #1 position on Billboard’s Classical Crossover Albums chart and a rewarding #54 on Billboard’s Top 200 Album chart.
