BROKEN

from KRISTY STARLING

written by George Rowe

Kristy Starling is a Contemporary Christian singer who first came into the spotlight when she appeared on NBC’s The Today Show in 2002. Her beautiful voice and great looks caught the eye of super-producer David Foster and she eventually signed to Warner Bros. She released her self-titled debut album in the spring of 2003 with Foster producing a couple of songs. Other big names like Richard Marx, Gary Burr and Billy Mann appeared as songwriters and/or producers. Musically, “Kristy Starling” follows the footsteps of Amy Grant with a well-dosed mix of modern Pop, Adult Contemporary and classic Contemporary Christian music. Lyrically, the material has a strong inspirational feel that’s perfectly suited by Starling’s fresh, sweet vocals. Foster with Richard Marx co-produced a strong rendition of Josh Groban’s hit “To Where You Are,” which was co-written by Marx and Linda Thompson plus originally crafted by the Canadian music maker. Starling’s vocal performance is really impressive and up to the high standard of Groban’s rendition.

The second Foster production is “Broken.” Written by George Rowe, a young talented singer/songwriter and big fan of Foster’s work. “Broken” is a wonderful song with a rarefied atmosphere handled with class and elegance by the young singer. Foster’s production is the usual state of the art affair with a gorgeous orchestral background and the warmth of his acoustic piano. Among the other songs on the album are a couple of very nice up-tempo ditties entitled “Must Have Been Angels,” again co-written by Linda Thompson, and “All For You.”

Lyrics

You said i’d have no more than i could handle
But everyday seems to be getting harder to make good
Through you you said that i could do anything oh anything
But sometimes i feel like i can’t do it at all

I’ve been knocked down and dragged around
And now i don’t know which way to go
All i need is one small sign to put me to where where you want me
I’m confused so i’m calling on you

’cause i i’m broken
And i’m ready for you to pick up the pieces
Won’t you direct me hold me accept me and mold me
Put the fragments of my life back together again
’cause i’m broken

Somewhat embarrassed to admit this
But i wonder if it’s the other or if it’s you
Is it trying to tempt me or is it you who strengthens me
I’m weak so i’m confessing to you

That i’m i’m broken
And i’m ready for you to pick up all the pieces
Won’t you direct me hold me accept me and mold me
Put the fragments of my life back together again
’cause i’m broken

My pride has been bruised
I suppose that’s good
My will to you i surrender
Oh i surrender

’cause i’m i’m broken
And i’m ready for you to pick up all the pieces
Direct me hold me accept me and mold me
Put the fragments of this life back together again
’cause i’m broken
