I’LL ALWAYS BE THERE

From I’LL ALWAYS BE THERE
Written by David Foster & Roch Voisine

“I’ll Always Be There” is the title of a successful anthem that David Foster co-wrote with Quebecoise music star Roch Voisine. The two joined forces in 1992 when they worked on Voisine’s first English language album. That same year in Ottawa, Voisine premiered “I’ll Always Be There” accompanied by Foster on piano at the celebration of Canada’s 125th Anniversary attended by Queen Elizabeth II. The subsequent album was released in October 1993 and took its name from the aforementioned epic ballad that opened the endeavor. Both the album and its title track became smash hits in Canada. The album eventually sold over a million copies between Canada and Europe. “I’ll Always Be There” is a beautiful composition that’s founded on Voisine’s emotional performance enhanced by Foster’s dramatic arrangement. The song is perfect for the singer’s strong voice that’s supported by keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars plus a powerful, gospel-tinged chorus. In 2003, Voisine released a new French album entitled “Je Te Serai Fidèle.” It features six new songs and new, completely reworked versions of nine of his most beloved hits like “Hélène,” complete with a new arrangement courtesy of David Foster. The title track is a special French cover of “I’ll Always Be There,” once again sung beautifully by Voisine.

Lyrics

You and I
Have followed the trace
Laid by people of faith and pride
With hungry eyes
You and I
Could conquer the stars
If we tried
Or simply live by simpler lives
And let the world go by

You and I
Have written the book
Line by line
And the few things it took to survive
Was your loving heart and mine
Should you go
Remember these words
As they show
Just how much I care
Don’t you know
I’ll always be there

I’ll always be there
There when the world and its promise
Is failing
I’ll always be there
There when the frost of its winter
Is cursing
I’ll always be there
There when the tears in your eyes
Keep on asking

I’ll always be there

You and I
Will follow the trace
Laid by people of faith and pride
With angry eyes gone blind
You and I
Will show them the light
We live by
So never again will they try
To keep us apart

I’ll always be there
There when the world and its promise
Is failing
I’ll always be there
There when the frost of its winter
Is cursing
I’ll always be there
There when the tears in your eyes
Keep on
Asking me why

I’ll always be there
There when the world and its promise
Is failing
I’ll always be there
There when the frost of its winter
Is cursing
I’ll always be there
There when your loving is such
You keep burning alive
I’ll always be there

I’ll always be there
I’ll always be there

I’ll always be there
I’ll always be there
