From WE’VE GOT TONIGHT

Kenny Rogers completed his musical evolution from country superstar to adult contemporary big name in the early eighties. His partnerships with Lionel Richie and The Bee Gees gave him his first pop/AC hits with songs like “Lady” and “She Believes In Me.”In 1983 for his new album, Rogers picked David Foster to produce a couple of songs. The results were quite impressive. The title track, “We’ve Got Tonight,” was a good cover of Bob Seger’s song and paired the veteran singer with Scottish newcomer Sheena Easton. It reached the top of the pop, country and adult contemporary charts. This ballad provides some great moments of vocal interplay by the two singers as well as one lush arrangement courtesy of our Canadian producer.
The other Foster production on the album and our song for this week is entitled “All My Life.” It is another great ballad, beautifully sung by Rogers with an impressive guitar solo by Steve Lukather. Here Foster provides another rich setting for the song, a smooth and refined production that is a far cry from Rogers’ country years. This tune was also released as a single with good success on the charts.
Apart from the two Foster productions, there are other nice moments on the album that include another original by Lionel Richie entitled “How Long,” and a convincing cover of Joe Cocker’s own “You Are So Beautiful.”
