Boz Scaggs in 1996 released a delicious compilation for the Japanese market entitled, “Fade Into Light”. This cd offers a few new tunes like the extraordinary “Some Things Happen” co-written with Marcus Miller, a couple of remixes plus a handful unplugged remakes of some of Scaggs’ most loved and popular hits like “Lowdown”, “We’re All Alone” and “Simone” that is our choice for this week’s page.
The mood of the whole cd is very jazzy and classy (there aren’t better words to define this record) and the acoustic setting gives these classics new life and brings them to a completely different dimension.
“Simone” is such a beautiful song, a timeless melody, rich of jazz changes and wonderfully sung by Scaggs with rare intensity. Jay Winding on fender rhodes, Norbert Stachel with his warm sax, Curt Bisquera on percussion, Fred Tackett on guitar and Dave Carpenter on bass help Boz to set the right atmosphere, now all you have to do is prepare yourself a drink, sit down, close your eyes and lose yourself in the magic of this song, truly one of Foster’s best ever.
