“America’s Song” is a powerful anthem co-written in January 2009 by David Foster and Will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas to honor the new American president, Barack Obama. The song was also produced and performed by the two music-makers together with superstars Faith Hill, Seal, Mary J. Blige and Bono.“America’s Song” was previewed on “Oprah” during inauguration week in Washington. A group of celebrities including Usher, Scarlett Johnansson, Glenn Close and Forrest Whitaker were present at the taping of the song.
Foster and Will.i.am said that they wrote almost the whole song in a single evening at Foster’s home. Musically, the song is based on Foster’s piano playing that accompanies the various singers’ intense vocal performances. The song develops into a meaningful anthem thanks to Will.i.am’s lyrics and it flies high with a strong, gospel-driven arrangement. All the vocal performances are obviously top notch with Seal and Blige’s amazing soul voices mixed with Bono’s legendary rock feel, Hill’s crystal clear tone and Will.i.am’s rapping. “America’s Song” is just the latest of a series of thought-inspiring anthems that Foster co-wrote during his career like “Voices That Care,” “The Power Of The Dream” and “The Prayer.”
