To round off 2021, here’s a review of Airplay’s “It Will Be Alright.”

Airplay was the pop/rock group that David Foster and pal Jay Graydon formed at the end of the seventies with singer Tommy Funderburk. As most Foster fans already know, Airplay’s seminal 1980 self-titled album is considered one of the milestones of the West Coast music scene of those years.

On February 16, 2014, veteran singer/songwriter Ray Kennedy died at the age of 67. Born Raymond Louis Kennedy, he had a long and respected career in the music business that goes back to early sixties. Kennedy could be heard  backing up legends like Otis Redding and Little Richard. He also played tenor saxophone alongside jazz greats including Gerry Mulligan, Dizzy Gillespie and Gene Krupa.

This week we go back once again to one of the seminal albums of David Foster’s career, the magnificent “Airplay.” That group was the brainchild of Foster and Jay Graydon. The self titled album was released in 1980 and is considered the musical manifest of quality pop. It includes Airplay’s original idea of popular music with rock overtones, jazzy changes and clever instrumental  arrangements. “Airplay” has been re-released a couple of times for the 25th and 30th anniversary of its release.
