In the first half of the Eighties Prince took the music world by the storm with his innovative, heavily programmed, synth-funk stuff. Many r&b acts followed this new trend including one of the most refined, elegant groups: Earth, Wind & Fire. Maurice White, probably feeling that his band wasn’t that hip anymore, decided a drastic change in the sound of their 1983 release entitled “Electric Universe.”

Lee Ritenour says it well on the liner notes of this 1986 release: “If I’m Dreamin’ (Don’t Wake Me) started out as instrumental, but when David Foster added his part to the chorus and contributed the bass and keyboard parts, suddenly i had a new baby!” That says a lot about Foster’s ability to arrange a song and put his personal touch on it.
