Toward the end of the seventies, Kenny Rogers was the first country superstar to crossover into the pop market. This occurred due to his velvet voice and wise choice of collaborators like David Foster and Lionel Richie. Foster produced huge hits for the singer like “We’ve Got Tonight” and “What About Me.”

Back in the second half of the sixties, Robert Lamm along with Walter Parazaider, Terry Kath, Danny Seraphine, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow, and Peter Cetera formed a band that came to be known as Chicago. He was the primary writer and singer of their early giant hits like “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is,” “Saturday In The Park” and “25 or 6 To 4.”

David Foster got a call in February of 1985 from his friend and mentor, Quincy Jones. Jones had just completed recording “We Are The World” for famine relief in Ethiopia. He asked Foster to quickly prepare an all-Canadian song to be included on the same project.

Black Rose was a short-lived rock group fronted by Cher and her then boyfriend, guitarist Les Dudek. They released one self-titled album in 1980 that attempted to follow the radio friendly rock trend Toto, Styx and Kansas successfully started a few years earlier.
