Lily Pearl Black is the daughter of country superstar Clint Black and famous actress and singer Lisa Hartman.
In fall of 2022, the young singer released her debut EP titled Songs From The Mostly Hits & The Mrs. Tour. The record featured three songs and included live reworkings of the Randy Newman classic, “Everytime It Rains” and Carrie Underwood’s 2018 country hit, “Cry Pretty.” The third song on the EP, and its only studio track, was a beautiful ballad titled “Never Knew Love.” Co-written by her father with David Foster, “Never Knew Love” sports a melody and progression that echoes the seminal ballads that Foster co-wrote and produced between the Eighties and the Nineties. Lily Pearl’s vocal on this number sounds very promising. She has a beautiful tone and her warm performance really does justice to such a beautifully-written ballad. The production was handled by Clint Black who enhanced the catchy appeal of “Never Knew Love” with some effective country overtones that gave it strong crossover potential.
David Foster gave a few words about this song:
“Lily is a really good singer. Clint and I wrote ‘Never Knew Love’ back in the Eighties or early Nineties; can’t remember exactly. I’ve always loved this song and I’m glad they finally recorded it. Clint is a special guy and I’ve also known his wife Lisa since the Seventies when I played on her debut album.”
