from DON’T WANT TO WAIT ANYMORE/THINK ABOUT ME (single)
written by The Tubes & David Foster
The Tubes wonderful power ballad, “Don’t Want To Wait Anymore,” was included on the band’s 1981 hit album, “The Completion Backward Principle.” That song became the Tubes’ first single to appear on Billboard’s Top 40 at #35 and it also made the Modern Rock chart at #22.“Don’t Want To Wait Anymore” was co-written by the group with their new producer, David Foster, who was at the helm for “The Completion Backward Principle.” Foster’s immense pop talent mixed with the group’s noteworthy musicianship created a radio-friendly ballad that the super-producer will perfect in the immediate future with his giant hits for Chicago, Kenny Rogers, Kenny Loggins and many others. “Don’t Want To Wait Anymore” was beautifully sung by The Tubes’ guitarist, Bill Spooner. In an interview, Bill Champlin, who sang back-up vocals on the album, said that Foster wanted him to sing the ballad. Champlin explained to Foster that “I don’t think Fee (Waybill) has the right pipes for it, but anything I can sing, Bill (Spooner) can sing.” He also said that he didn’t think it was fair to the guys in the band to sing a lead vocal on their album.
“Don’t Want To Wait Anymore” sports a fantastic arrangement, top notch vocals and catchy refrain. It sure stands among Foster’s best ballads ever. The single’s B-side , “Think About Me,” is more in line with The Tubes’ new wave sound and rocking atmosphere.

Lyrics
We, could be
The last two on earth
To start a new world
Just you and me, girl
Try, and you can almost see
How it could be, just you and me
Lost, trapped in the freezing cold
Barely alive
Have to make love to survive
I’ll show you how it’s done
We’ll take it as it comes
A rocket to the sun
I don’t want to wait anymore
I just don’t think I have the strength
The strength to carry on
Oh, I don’t want to wait anymore
I’ve waited so long
I forgot what I’m waiting for
Stranded on a desert isle
With no one around
For thousands of miles
Imagine any place
This is what it takes
But don’t tell me to wait
I don’t want to wait anymore
I just don’t think I have the strength
The strength to carry on
Oh, I don’t want to wait anymore
I’ve waited so long
I forgot what I’m waiting for
I don’t want to wait anymore
I just don’t think I have the strength
The strength to carry on
Oh, I don’t want to wait anymore
I’ve waited so long
I forgot what I’m waiting for
And I don’t want to wait anymore
I just don’t think I have the strength
I just don’t think I have the strength to carry on
Oh, I don’t want to wait anymore
I just don’t think I have the strength
I don’t want to wait anymore
I just don’t think I have the strength
