STAND UP FOR LOVE

From #1’s
Written by David Foster & Amy Foster Gillies

In 2002, David Foster co-penned with Linda Thompson the poignant first World Children’s Day anthem “Aren’t They All Our Children” that brought them a well-deserved Emmy. Although not originally recorded in a studio, “Aren’t They All Our Children” was given a great live performance by a number of superstars including Céliné Dion, Josh Groban, Nick Carter, and Enrique Iglesias during the “Concert For World Children’s Day” finale.
Recently, Foster created another moving theme titled “Stand Up For Love.” Co-written with Foster’s daughter, Amy Foster-Gillies, this inspirational ballad became the 2005 World Children’s Day anthem. It was released by red-hot r&b group Destiny’s Child as part of their platinum best of collection entitled “#1’s.” “Stand Up For Love” is one of those typical grand Foster ballads like “I Have Nothing.” It builds gently from a carpet of piano and strings that underline the singers’ vocals, rising to the rousing orchestral climax that leads to the song’s sweet ending. Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams give a heartfelt performance with a strong gospel taste in the harmonies. Their voices blend beautifully as they sing the thoughtful lyrics. This was one of the last songs recorded by Destiny’s Child before their break-up.

Lyrics

[Beyonce]
There are times I find it hard to sleep at night
We are living through such trouble times
And every child that reaches out
For someone to hold
For one moment
They become my own

And how can I pretend that I don’t know
What’s going on?
When every second
And every minute
Another soul is gone

And I believe that in my life
I will see
An end to hopelessness
Or giving up
Or suffering

Then we all stand together this one time
Then no one will get left behind
And stand up for life
Stand up
And here me sing
Stand up
For love

[Kelly]
Im inspired
And hope
For each and everyday
That’s how I know that things are going to change
So how can I pretend that I don’t know
What’s going on?
When every second
And every minute
Another soul is gone

And I believe that in my life
I will see
An end to hopelessness
Or giving up
Or suffering

If we all stand together this one time
Then no one will get left behind
And stand up for life
Stand up
For love

[Michelle]
And it all starts right here
And it starts right now
One person stand up man!
And the rest will follow
From the forgotten
And From the Unloved

Im gonna sing this song,

And I believe
That in my life
I will see
An end to hopelessness
Or giving up
Or suffering

If we all stand together this one time
Then no one will get left behind
And stand up
for life
stand up
and sing
Stand up
For love
