OH YEAH!

From WATCHING YOU WATCHING ME
Written by Bill Withers, David Foster and Larry Carlton

In 1985 veteran soul singer Bill Withers (“Ain’t No Sunshine”, “Use Me”, “Lovely Day”….) recorded an outstanding comeback album entitled “Watching You Watching Me” filled with great songs and big names like Marcus Miller, Robbie Buchanan, Ernie Watts and Phil Perry. The opening tune (and first single) of the record – “Oh Yeah!”- is a collaboration with David Foster who co-wrote the tune with Withers and Larry Carlton, and arranged it, while the production was handled by Carlton and Withers with Denny Diante as coproducer.

”Oh Yeah!” is an amazing pop song that echoes some of Foster’s sweet, uptempo goodies like Paul Anka’s “Second Chance” or Chicago’s “What Can I Say”. Da Man’s trademark keyboard playing shines through the whole song with nice synthesizer breaks and his unmistakable synth bass and piano.
There are also soft and breezing female backing vocals and, on top of this, Bill Withers’ fantastic vocals. He’s without any doubt one of the best soul singers/songwriters ever.

Lyrics

Sometimes you stare and the look that’s in your eyes
Says that you care and it gives me butterflies

Oh yeah! What a pure delight
Oh yeah! I’m in love alright
Oh yeah! What a perfect night
Why don’t we stay here together?

Sometimes it’s there in the way you say hello
Sometimes the answer is yes when you say no

Oh yeah! What a pure delight
Oh yeah! I’m in love alright
Oh yeah! What a perfect night
Why don’t we stay here together?
Why don’t you stay here forever in my life

Time for the shoes and rice
‘Cause I think you’re very nice
And I want you in my life, oh baby!

Oh yeah! What a pure delight
Oh yeah! I’m in love alright
Oh yeah! such a perfect night
Why don’t we stay here together?
Why don’t you stay here forever in the night
