The iconic film composer, Ennio Morricone, passed away on July 6, 2020, in Rome. In the course of his long and successful career, the Italian maestro collected an endless number of accolades including two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards and three Golden Globes plus several nominations. Mr. Morricone’s amazing list of scores embodied iconic soundtracks including Once Upon a Time in America, The Untouchables, The Mission, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

The Stylistics were a legendary American vocal group and one of the Philly Soul movement’s most successful acts in the Seventies. Their hits included staples like “Betcha By Golly Wow,” “Break Up To Make Up,” “You Make Me Feel Brand New” and “People Make The World Go Round.” The group’s impeccable vocal harmonies presented a trademark falsetto sung by Russell Allen Thompkins, Jr. that’s one of the most recognizable in popular music.

Miki Howard was a talented soul/R&B singer who started her career in 1980 as lead vocalist for the popular R&B group, Side Effect. Together they released three good albums as a group before Howard went solo. Howard eventually delivered a string of R&B hits between the late eighties and early nineties including “Come Share My Love,” “Ain’t Nuthin’ In The World” and “Ain’t Nobody Like You.” Howard successfully ventured into the jazz repertoire portraying the late, great Billie Holiday (1915-1959) in Spike Lee’s 1992 Malcolm X  movie.

It was written by the songwriting team of Ray Evans (1915-2007) and Jay Livingston (1915-2001) for the 1950 movie Captain Carey, USA, starring the late Alan Ladd (1913-1964). “Mona Lisa” was sung by the renowned Nat “King” Cole (1919-1965) and won the Academy Award as “Best Original Song.”
