from PIZZA AND FAIRY TALES

written by Paul McCartney

In the autumn of 1984, David Foster went to the UK to collaborate with former Beatle Paul McCartney on new songs for the superstar’s next project. Foster recently said it was a dream come true for him as McCartney was one of his idols and he was absolutely convinced they would write new masterpieces together.Unfortunately, things didn’t develop exactly as expected at those sessions… maybe because both McCartney and Foster weren’t exactly in their best musical moment or just because the collaboration happened at the wrong time. One of the songs that did come from the collaboration was “We Got Married.” It resurfaced, slightly remixed, years later on the album “Flowers In The Dirt.” The original version of that song and a couple other things from the Foster sessions were later included on in an unofficial release entitled “Pizza And Fairy Tales.” That double cd presented a lot of the unreleased McCartney stuff that was recorded throughout the eighties. Two of the tracks originally co-produced by Foster and McCartney in late 1984 were “I Love This House” and “Lindiana.” “I Love This House” is a decent rocker with guest David Gilmour of Pink Floyd on guitar. “Lindiana” is truly a welcome surprise cause it pretty well matches McCartney’s immense melodic talent with Foster’s sleek and keyboard-driven arrangement. Foster’s moog bass and synths are in the spotlight surrounding Macca’s sweet vocals. The song’s refrain is also memorable and pretty effective. We think it would have been a hit if released in any form back when it was written.

The rest of “Pizza And Fairy Tales” includes collaborations with other super-producers like Hugh Padham and Phil Ramone. It is of absolute interest for Beatle and Paul McCartney fans alike.

From THRILLER
Written by Michael Jackson

At the initial stage of his career, David Foster was a fixture on all the most important records produced by the legendary Quincy Jones. Whether it was utilizing his arranging skills, tasteful playing of several instruments or songwriting genius, Jones always knew he could count on Foster’s unique talent to enhance and inspire. On the other hand, the up and coming musician knew that Quincy Jones’ was the best mentor to help him accomplish his goal to become a successful music maker. Foster appeared on Q’s big sellers like George Benson’s “Give Me The Night” and Michael Jackson’s “Off The Wall.” Jackson’s mega-successful 1982 album, “Thriller,” saw Foster once again adding his touch to the project. “The Girl Is Mine,” a pop duet with Paul McCartney, was the first smash hit from “Thriller,” reaching the top of several charts. Jones conceived this sweet, up-tempo ballad with his best alumni; David Paich, Jerry Hey and Foster who handled the clever synthesizer arrangement. Foster’s colorful synth together with Paich’s piano and Greg Phillinganes’ rhodes provides a delicate carpet for the two superstars. “The Girl Is Mine” is a perfect example of the most sophisticated pop music of the early eighties, superbly crafted and performed with class by great musicians and two extraordinary singers. “Thriller” went on to become the best selling album of all time, with more than 60 million copies worldwide. It also gave us giant chart hits like “Billy Jean,” “Beat It” and “Human Nature,” plus winning several Grammy’s. It was, without a doubt, the peak of both Jackson’s and Jones’ careers.

[1st Verse (Michael)]
Every Night She Walks Right In My Dreams
Since I Met Her From The Start
I’m So Proud I Am The Only One
I Know She’s Mine
Because The Doggone Girl Is Mine

[2nd Verse (Paul)]
I Don’t Understand The Way You Think
Saying That She’s Yours Not Mine
Sending Roses And Your Silly Dreams
Really Just A Waste Of Time

But I Love You Endlessly
(Loving We Will Share)

[Michael & Paul]
So Come And Go With Me
To One Town

The Girl Is Mine
The Doggone Girl Is Mine
Don’t Waste Your Time
Because The Doggone Girl Is Mine

The Girl Is Mine, The Girl Is Mine
The Girl Is Mine, The Girl Is Mine

[Paul]
The Girl Is Mine, (Yep) She’s Mine
The Girl Is Mine, (Yep) She’s Mine

[Michael]
Don’t Waste Your Time
Because The Doggone Girl Is Mine
The Girl Is Mine, The Girl Is Mine

[Paul]
Michael, We’re Not Going To Fight About This, Okay

[Michael]
Paul, I Think I Told You, I’m A Lover Not A Fighter

[Paul]
I’ve Heard It All Before, Michael

From FLOWERS IN THE DIRT
Written by Paul McCartney

Through the years, David Foster has been lucky enough to work with all the Beatles. In the early Seventies, he performed live with John Lennon. He also played on a couple of Ringo Starr’s albums. An important musical partnership was the one with George Harrison. Foster worked on Harrison’s records and was part of The Attitudes, a group that released a couple of albums on Harrison’s Dark Horse label. In the early Eighties, Foster was the most important new producer in the music industry and Paul McCartney asked the canadian producer to collaborate with him. They met in the fall of 1984 and came up with three songs – “I Love This House,” “Lindiana,” and “We Got Married.” These songs were all put on the shelf. Four years later, McCartney reworked “We Got Married” a little and included it on “Flowers In The Dirt.” The song isn’t a masterpiece, but this rock ballad has some good elements. McCartney’s vocal performance plus his bass and Mexican guitar are really good. David Gilmour (the Pink Floyd guitarist appeared on all the original 1984 sessions) adds some effective guitar solos. Guy Barker plays a nice trumpet at the end and gives the track some jazz flavor. In 1988, McCartney overdubbed Barker, Robbie McIntosh and Hamish Stuart’s performances with Neil Dorfsman.

Going Fast, Coming Soon
We Made Love In The Afternoon.
Found A Flat, After That
We Got Married.

Working Hard For The Dream,
Scoring Goals For The Other Team,
Times Were Bad, We Were Glad
We Got Married.

Like The Way You Open Up Your Hearts To Each Other,
When You Find A Meeting Of The Minds.
Just As Well Love Was All We Ever Wanted,
It Was All We Ever Had.

Further On In The Game,
Waiting Up Till The Children Came.
Place Your Bets, No Regrets,
We Got Married.
We Got Married.
We Got Married.

Nowadays Every Night Flashes By
At The Speed Of Light,
Living Life, Loving Wife,
We Got Married.

I Love The Things That Happen
When We Start To Discover
Who We Are And What We’re Living For,
Just Because Love Was All We Ever Wanted
It Was All We Ever Had.

It Doesn’t Work Out
