April 1994 witnessed the release of the debut cd by American pop/R&B vocal quartet, All-4-One. Jamie Jones, Alfred Nevarez, Delious Kennedy and Tony Borowiak delivered a one-two punch with their first two singles; “So Much In Love” that reached #5 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and was certified gold and “I Swear,” their #1 international smash.

“I Swear” was produced by David Foster, became a Grammy winner and was one of the most successful singles of the modern pop era by staying at the top of the chart for eleven weeks. It went on to sell over one million copies in the US to achieve platinum status and charted on the top position in the UK and several other countries. A past review of “I Swear” can be found here.

Foster crafted another ballad for All-4-One’s debut cd titled “Oh Girl.” Co-written by noted music-maker Gary St. Clair with band member Jamie Jones, “Oh Girl” was another killer track, a bit more on the R&B side compared to the pop atmosphere of “I Swear.” Co-writer Jones sung the warm lead vocals while being supported by the group’s impeccable vocal harmonies. Foster’s keyboard-driven arrangement was the usual state-of-the-art affair that considerably increased the level of catchiness of this composition. Thanks to the superior quality of the group’s vocals, the high level of the production and the top-value of the aforementioned songs, All-4-One became a Top Ten entry on Billboard’s Top 200 and was eventually certified platinum four times.

In 1999, Pop/R&B group All 4 One released their third album entitled “On And On.” The popular vocal quartet collaborated with David Foster who produced the amazing one-two punch of their previous top hits “I Swear” and “I Can Love You Like That.”

Foster’s trademark arrangements on these two ballads served the singers perfectly and established All 4 One as a leading vocal combo of the nineties. The result of their work for “On and On” produced a delicate, elegant ballad entitled “I Will Be Right Here.”

Written by hit-maker Diane Warren, “I Will Be Right Here” is a beautifully conceived song with sweet-as-candy vocals, a memorable refrain and top notch production. “I Will Be Right Here” was the first single from “On And On.” Although it reached #24 on the Adult Contemporary Chart, the song should have charter a lot higher given its radio-friendly potential.

Mostly produced by the band’s old collaborator Tim O’Brien, “On And On” followed the footsteps of All 4 One’s previous albums with a mix of Adult Contemporary stuff and light Urban material. Among the other shining moments are the ballad, “I Cross My Heart” co-written by Frank J. Myers and Gary Baker of “I Swear” fame and the up-tempo opener, “Keep It Goin’ On,” with legendary Nile Rodgers of Chic fame as another guest producer.

Last month, All 4 One was among the guests for the new David Foster Hitman show in Las Vegas. They performed their most loved hits accompanied by the super-producer.

Tony Borowiak, Jamie Jones, Delious Kennedy and Alfred Navarez comprise the hit vocal group All-4-One. Their self-titled debut cd was an out of the box success with platinum plus sales and a giant David Foster produced hit, “I Swear.” It won the 1994 Grammy Award for “Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal” and enjoyed an eleven-week run at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“And The Music Speaks” was their 1995 follow-up album. This go around the group decided to again collaborate with Foster for the debut single “I Can Love You Like That.” As with “I Swear,” this new collaboration was an ear candy cover of a John Michael Montgomery #1 country hit. The smart concept was another huge success for the group that scored big on the pop/adult contemporary singles charts and was also Grammy nominated for “Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal” and “Song Of The Year.” “I Can Love You Like That” has an elegant, pop arrangement that is perfect for mainstream radio with the four singers trading sweet, romantic lines under Foster’s expert guidance. “And The Music Speaks” was a good collection of love songs with some funkier moments all based on the group’s impeccable vocal harmonies. It was certified platinum and kept the momentum going for the group.

Foster and All-4-One reunited again in 1999 for a final collaboration on “I Will Be Right Here,” a ballad included on their album “On & On.”

“I Swear” was originally a 1994 chart topper for country superstar John Michael Montgomery. That same year, newcomers All 4 One worked on a remake of the song with David Foster that zoomed to the top of Billboard’s Hot 100. “I Swear” kept the #1 spot for an astonishing 11 weeks, making it one of the most successful songs of the rock era. It was also a #3 adult contemporary hit, went platinum and brought All 4 One the Grammy for “Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.” Foster’s production and arrangement were flawless. He reworked the original melody and added his thumbprint to make it perfect stuff for r&b and pop listeners. The wonderful, high tech sounds, All 4 One’s sweet as candy voices, plus the song’s memorable lyrics made “I Swear” an instant favorite for listeners around the world. Through the years the song has become an evergreen, often used for weddings. It continues to be heavily played on radio. Let’s not forget that its parent album, titled “All 4 One,” went multi-platinum, selling over 4 million copies. It included another top 5 hit, “So Much In Love,” another example of the group’s outstanding vocal harmonies.
