Quebec born singer Garou is a very popular performer whose big break came in 1997 with his appearance in the leading role of Quasimodo in the ultra-successful musical drama “Notre Dame Du Paris.” His performance won audiences all over the world as he sang the beautiful, heart-wrenching songs written for the musical by Luc Plamondon and Riccardo Cocciante. This triumph got him important awards like the Felix in Canada and the Victoire in France where he quickly became a true superstar. After “Notre Dame Du Paris” Garou started a recording career with the release of “Seul” at the dawn of the new millennium.
This album was overseen by the same team that brought Celine Dion to
her superstar status. It was created by one incredible group of writers/producers like his mentors Plamondon and Cocciante (that Garou resembles quite a bit vocally) plus stars of the recording studios like Walter Afanasieff, Bryan Adams, Humberto Gatica, Aldo Nova and David Foster. Foster worked on a magnificent ballad, “L’Adieu.” It was superbly produced and arranged with prominent use of acoustic piano, keyboards and strings. It sports one passionate and intense vocal performance by the singer. “Seul” is a perfectly crafted pop work. It includes many other high moments like the duet with Celine Dion on “Sous Le Vent” or more uptempo numbers like “Criminel” and “Gambler” that with the help of the legendary Jerry Hey horns show also some of Garou’s r&b roots. “Seul” was a big hit in the francophone countries reaching platinum status and selling like hotcakes. Garou has recently released a new self titled album that’s more good evidence of his impressive talent.

Lyrics

Adieu,
Adieu,
Aux arbres mouillés de septembre
À leur soleil de souvenir
À ces mots doux, à ces mots tendres
Que je t’ai entendu me dire
À la faveur d’un chemin creux
Ou d’une bougie allumée
Adieu à ce qui fut nous deux
À la passion du verbe aimer
L’adieu c’est le loup blanc
Dans sa montagne
Et les chasseurs dans la vallée
Le soleil qui nous accompagne
Est une lune bête à pleurer
L’adieu ressemble à ces marées
Qui viendront tout ensevelir
Les marins avec les mariées
Le passé avec l’avenir
Oh l’adieu !
Oh l’adieu !
The post L’ADIEU first appeared on SONG OF THE WEEK.
