Yunalis Zarai, artistically known as Yuna, is a young singer/songwriter from Malaysia . She signed a contract with David Foster’s Verve Records in 2013 and released two cds for the label, Nocturnal in October 2013 and Chapters in May 2016. Foster strongly supports Yuna and her very personal blend of indie pop and acoustic soul enriched with modern dance arrangements.

Yuna appears to be a very good songwriter with a knack for writing interesting lyrics. Her soprano voice is noteworthy with an irresistible melodic appeal. Chapters, her second offering from Verve, is a welcome musical surprise and features high-profile duets with R&B superstar Usher and fellow singer/songwriter Jhenè Aiko. Yuna co-wrote all the material on Chapters. Among the best songs is an infectious mid-tempo entitled “Best Love” with echoes of Sade, the evocative ballad “Lanes” and another slick, danceable number entitled “Time” that can be found on the deluxe edition of the cd.

Foster co-wrote “All I Do” with his Malaysian protégé. “All I Do” is a gorgeous, acoustic ballad that’s another high point of Chapters. The Canadian super-producer crafted the track with the help of his right-hand man, Jochem van der Saag. The song is unmistakably beautiful with its delicate melody and tender arrangement based on Foster’s piano and van der Saag’s minimal synths. Yuna’s vocal is superb in its simplicity. She captures the listener’s attention without any trick or acrobatic vocal. “All I Do” effectively fuses Foster’s classic pop world with the young singer’s vision and the result is one of the best Foster co-written efforts heard in recent years. Chapters found its way to the top twenty of Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Album chart and its quality music should crossover to the pop charts and deserve mainstream radio playing. Spread the word about Yuna’s talent and look forward to her subsequent projects.

Lyrics

All I Do
Is think about you
Sleep late and wake up then
I’ll just stay in my bed
A little afternoon, I’ll go get some food
Call up anyone, to go do something fun

Tell me if there is a way
To fall out of love with you
Cause all I do, I do all day
Is missin’ my time with you

Now that I don’t have you
It’s all I do
I’ll go to dance
Class ends at 9 pm
I’ll go right back home again, oh

Tell me if there is a way
To fall out of love with you
Cause all I do, I do all day
Is missin’ my time with you

Tell me what I should do
Now that I don’t have you
I’m on my knees, I pray
That I will be okay
You’re just a memory to me
But still all I do, all day, is livin’ a lie
Thinking what it’d be like if you stayed

All I do
It’s nothing new
Yeah it’s all I do
Is think about you, yeah

Tell me if there is a way
To fall out of love with you
Cause all I do, I do all day
Is missin’ my time with you
Tell me what I should do

It’s all I do
Is think about you
It’s all I do
Is think about
