From LOVE JAMS vol. two
Written by Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager & Bill Conti

Siedah Garrett, a protégé of Quincy Jones, rose to fame in the second half of the eighties singing a couple of hit duets, one with Michael Jackson on “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” and the second with Dennis Edwards on ”Don’t Look Any Further.” She also co-wrote with Glen Ballard the mega-hit “Man In The Mirror” for Michael Jackson’s “Bad” as well as songs for big names like Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole and Paula Abdul. Garrett released her first album, “Kiss Of Life,” in 1988 on Jones’ Qwest label that brought her some chart success. In the nineties she released another record and continued as a songwriter and backing vocalist on many projects. In 1997 she joined the acid jazz UK combo, Brand New Heavies, for their album “Shelter.” The album showcases Garrett’s talents as a singer and a songwriter. The record sold well in the UK, however the singer left the band and went back to her solo career.

Garrett was picked to sing the theme for the 1987 hit movie, “Baby Boom” starring Diane Keaton. The song, a sophisticated ballad entitled “Everchanging Times,” was co-written by Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager and Bill Conti plus was superbly produced by David Foster. Around those years, Foster was working a lot for the movies, writing and producing hit songs for blockbusters like “The Secret Of My Success” and “Three Men And A Baby.” He tastefully put his print on the song with the elegant arrangement all built on keyboards, synthesized strings and programmed drums that enhance Garrett’s tender vocal performance. “Everchanging Time” has a beautiful melody and one memorable refrain; the mood is moving nostalgic. Years later this song was covered by Aretha Franklin and Michael McDonald with Foster playing synths on the Bacharach produced version. Both covers share the same smart arrangement and are true ear candies. Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night also released a lesser known but good take on this tune.

It’s an ever changing time
I see, that clock upon the wall
Well it don’t bother me at all
It’s an ever changing time

And me, ever changing time
Everything is going so much faster
It seems like I’m
Watching my life, and everything I do
Wonder if the dreams that I believed in
Still come true

Caught in between, it comes back to
You and me running out of time, I gotta find me a better understanding
Everything keeps forgetting what’s mine, I gotta find me a way, less-demanding
And we’re holding on so tight, together, all of our lives

And I, I had some big idea
So much of my life, still not completed
Hopes and Fears
Watching it change, into something new
Wondering it I’m gonna find the answer, loving you

All of my life, it comes back to
You and me running out of time, I gotta find me a better understanding
Everything keeps forgetting what’s mine, I gotta find me a way, less-demanding
And we’re holding on so tight, together, all of our lives

I see, that clock upon the wall, well it don’t bother me at all
It’s a ever changing time
[2x]

All of my life, it comes back to
You and me running out of time, I gotta find me a better understanding
Everything keeps forgetting what’s mine, I gotta find me a way, less-demanding
And we’re holding on so tight, together
And we’re gonna be alright, together, all of our lives

I see, that clock upon the wall, well it don’t bother me at all
