written by Robert Harris & Paul Francis Webster

The classic theme song of the sixties cartoon show Spider-Man was composed by late illustrious songwriters Robert “Bob” Harris (September 27, 1925 to February 13, 2000) and Paul Francis Webster (December 20, 1907 to March 18, 1984). Webster was a gifted lyricist who also co-wrote gems that became Academy Award winners for Best Original Song including “The Shadow Of Your Smile” and “Love Is A Many-Splendored Thing.” His incredible talent was also acknowledged with thirteen more nominations to that prestigious award for other evergreens including “April Love,” “Tender Is The Night” and “A Time For Love.”

The theme from Spider-Man paired Webster’s phenomenal lyrics with Harris’ rousing instrumental track. The theme became one of TV’s most covered songs with renditions by rock greats Aerosmith, Queen’s axe-man Brian May and even punk legends Ramones.

In recent years, the most faithful and successful cover was released as a single in July of 2004 by Michael Bublè. “Spider-Man Theme” was originally recorded on the Canadian singing sensation 2001 BaBalu cd and he performed it live on the 2002 David Foster DVD event The Concert for World Children’s Day, Bublè applied his elegant, jazzy approach to the memorable tune under the guidance of his mentor Foster. His rendition of the “Spider-Man Theme” was a perfect fit for the closing credits of the hit movie Spider-Man 2 starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. Foster re-worked the backing track with the help of the incomparable Jerry Hey who was the supreme arranger of Seawind, Quincy Jones,  Michael Jackson and Earth, Wind & Fire fame, just to name a few. The final result was a swinging delight and sonic pleasure also thanks to the ears of co-producer Humberto Gatica. “Spider-Man Theme” was fueled with an irresistible dance remix crafted by famed DJ and producer Junkie XL. This radio-friendly remix became a #2 hit in Italy , #6 in Canada and #21 in Australia.

Lyrics

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can.
Spins a web, any size.
Catches thieves- just like flies.
Look out! Here comes the Spiderman.

Is he strong? Listen, bud.
He’s got radioactive blood.
Can he swing, from a thread?
Take a look overhead.
Hey, there! There goes the Spiderman!

In the chill of night, at the scene of a crime,
like a streak of light,
he arrives, just in time!

Spiderman, Spiderman,
friendly neighborhood Spiderman.
Wealth and fame? He’s ignored.
Action is his reward.
Look out! There goes the Spiderman!

Spiderman, Spiderman,
friendly neighborhood Spiderman.
Wealth and fame? He’s ignored
(He’s Ignored)
Action is his reward.
Look out! (LOOK OUT!)
Here comes the Spiderman!

In the chill of night, at the scene of a crime,
like a streak of light,
he arrives, just in time!

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can.
Spins a web, any size.
Catches thieves- just like flies.
Look out! Here comes the Spiderman.

Spiderman, Spiderman,
friendly neighborhood Spiderman.
Wealth and fame? He’s ignored.
Action is his reward.
Look out!
Here comes the Spiderman!!!!!!!!
