Written by Albert Hammond & John Bettis

Julio Iglesias is one of the most popular Latin singers on the planet. His irresistible tenor and unique phrasing has made him an international superstar for the past 30 years. In 1983, the Spanish-born singer decided to spread his success to North America with his first English album entitled “1100 Bel Air Place.”

The platinum-plus release included two mega hit duets with two American icons; “All Of  You” with Diana Ross and “To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before” with Willie Nelson. The album, a well-prepared mix of pop and adult contemporary stuff, included an impressive number of top songwriters and musicians. David Foster played keyboards on the record and also appeared on its follow-up, “Non Stop,” that traveled along the same elegant musical lines as its predecessor.

The nineties came along and Iglesias wanted to reignite his success. He released a new collection in ‘94 entitled “Crazy.” Another star-studded affair, “Crazy,” was a collection of classic tunes with a few select originals. The atmospheres were in the same adult pop zone as his previous two efforts with top-notch production and performances. It was produced by veteran producer/songwriter Albert Hammond with a notable exception being “When You Tell Me That You Love Me” that saw David Foster in the control booth. This poignant ballad, co-written by Hammond with John Bettis, was originally recorded by Diana Ross in 1991. This new version was realized by Iglesias as a heartfelt duet with Dolly Parton. The noteworthy epic arrangement served the two performers perfectly, their distinctive voices soaring in a sea of lush strings, keyboards and guitars to reach the classic climax. It was but one highlight of this gold certified album that also sports beautiful renditions of “Fragile” and “Caruso” with authors Sting and Lucio Dalla making guest appearances. Another couple of goodies were Hammond’s soft ballad, “I Keep Telling Myself,” and the title track, a classic Willie Nelson tune. Art Garfunkel, Dave Koz and the London Symphony Orchestra are among the other big names appearing on the album.

Lyrics

I wanna call the stars down from the sky
I wanna live a day that never dies
I wanna change the world only for you
All the impossible I wanna do
I wanna hold you close under the rain
I wanna kiss your smile and feel the pain
I know what’s beautiful looking at you
In a world of lies you are the truth
And, baby, everytime you touch me I become a hero
I’ll make you safe no matter where you are
And bring you everything you ask for, nothing is above me
I’m shining like a candle in the dark
When you tell me that you love me
I wanna make you see just what I was
Show you the loneliness and what it does
You walked into my life to stop my tears
Everything’s easy now, I have you here
And, baby, everytime you touch me I become a hero
I’ll make you safe no matter where you are
And bring you everything you ask for, nothing is above me
I’m shining like a candle in the dark
When you tell me that you love me
In a world without you I would always hunger
All I need is your love to make me stronger
And, baby, everytime you touch me I become a hero
I’ll make you safe no matter where you are
And bring you everything you ask for, nothing is above me
I’m shining like a candle in the dark
When you tell me that you love me
You love me
When you tell me that you love me
