David Foster first stepped into the world of TV talent shows in 2001 with his appearance on Popstars, a U.S. TV show that discovered, among others, the now-famous Nicole Scherzinger. In the following years, Foster had guest appearances on American Idol and was a judge on the 2006 Fox show Celebrity Duets alongside Little Richard and Marie Osmond. Given Foster’s huge popularity in Asia and his unmatched expertise, the Canadian super-producer was asked to join the panel of judges for Asia’s Got Talent with former Spice Girl Melanie C., singer Anggun and singer/actor Vanness Wu.

The show first aired Spring 2015 with high ratings and great success. During one of the final shows, the four judges performed a new live version of “Let’s Groove,” the 1981 hit by Earth, Wind & Fire. That classic funk anthem originally reached #3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and hit the top of the R&B chart. Foster even appeared on EWF’s Raise album that included the track “Let’s Groove.” He decided to reinvent that hit for the special occasion by producing and arranging a catchy rendition. Not a surprise that “Let’s Groove” was greeted with big praise on the show. A studio version of the song was recorded and released as a charity single to benefit Nepal after the April 2015 earthquake.
“Let’s Groove” was contemporized by Foster with a tight beat and the use of various synthesizers. The Hitman added a nice touch of using the vocoder to echo EWF’s original. Like he always does, Foster got good vocal takes by his fellow judges with just a little help from auto-tune. Yet, the new version can’t compare to Maurice White’s timeless performance.
For those interested, “Let’s Groove” can be found on a new best-of compilation of Foster’s hit work entitled “The Many Sides Of David Foster.” Along with some timeless Foster material, you can hear classics by Michael Bublé, Chicago, Lionel Richie and Whitney Houston.
Here’s a little note that Foster sent regarding the new “Let’s Groove”:“I wanted to come up with a song that was fun to listen to and that all singers could handle. All my fellow judges loved the idea and it seemed just retro enough to do the job. The result got the place jumping at the finale of Asia’s Got Talent !”

Lyrics

Let’s groove tonight
Share the spice of life
Baby slice it right
We’re gonna groove tonight

Let this groove get you to move
It’s alright (alright) alright
Let this groove set in your shoes
So stand up (alright) alright

Gonna tell what you can do with my love
Alright
Let you know girl
You’re looking good you’re out of sight
Alright
Just move yourself
And glide like a seven-forty-seven
And lose you’re self in the sky
Among the clouds in the heavens ’cause

Let this groove light up your fuse
It’s alright (alright) alright
Let this groove set in your shoes
So stand up (alright) alright

Let me tell you what you can do with my love
Alright
Gotta let you know girl
You’re looking good you’re out of sight
Alright
Just tell the d.j. to play your favorite tune
Then you know it’s okay
What you found is happening now

Let this groove get you to move
It’s alright (alright) alright
Let this groove set in your shoes
So stand up (alright) alright

Let this groove get you to move
It’s alright (alright) alright yeah
Let this groove set in your shoes
So stand up (alright) alright

You will find a piece of mind
On the floor take a little time
Come and see, you and me
Make a little sign
I’ll be there after a while
If you want my love
We can boogie on down
Down boogie on down
Down boogie on down yeah
Down boogie on down
On down
Boogie on

Let’s groove tonight
Share the spice of life
Baby slice it right
We’re gonna groove tonight

Let this groove light up your fuse
It’s alright (alright) alright
Let this groove set in your shoes
So stand up (alright) alright

Let this groove light up your fuse
It’s alright (alright) alright
Let this groove set in your shoes
So stand up (alright) alright

Let this groove light up your fuse
It’s alright (alright) alright
Let this groove set in your shoes
So stand up (alright) alright

Let’s groove tonight
Share the spice of life
Baby slice it right
We’re gonna groove tonight

Let this groove light up your fuse
It’s alright (alright) alright
Let this groove set in your shoes
So stand up (alright) alright

Let this groove light up your fuse
It’s alright (alright) alright
Let this groove set in your shoes
So stand up (alright) alright
