Seal is one of the hottest stars in the world of pop music. The UK singer responsible for planetary hits like “Crazy” and “Kiss From A Rose” recently joined forces with David Foster for his new album “Soul.”
Released in the fall of 2008, “Soul” is a stunning collection of classic R&B songs originally performed by legends like Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, James Brown and Al Green. It debuted at #13 on Billboard’s Top 200 and #4 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
Under Foster’s expert guidance, Seal is in top vocal form and shines on his passionate renditions of gems like the lead-off single, “A Change Is Gonna Come” and two classic R&B ballads, “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World” and “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long.” Foster also had a strong hand in the vintage sounding arrangements that have a smart modern twist in this state of the art production. There’s a large use of horn sections on the up-tempoed “I Can’t Stand The Rain” and “Here I Am (Come And Take Me).” Plus, Foster adds his fantastic touch on fender rhodes, acoustic piano and hammond organ.
One of the absolute highlights of “Soul” is the smooth take on Al Green’s “I’m Still In Love With You.” Seal’s vocal reminds you of Marvin Gaye while the musical scenario is pure ear candy with an enchanting coda made of refined strings and horns breaks. He has also thrown in delicious rhythm guitars and an irresistible funky beat.
