From MIRACLE
Written by Ron Miller, Ken Hirsch & Marti Sharron
“Miracle” was a true labor of love for Celine Dion. It was a special project that she developed between 2003 and 2004 together with Anne Geddes who’s a famous photographer specialized in portraits of little children. Geddes’ stunning images matched with Dion’s unique rendition of perfectly themed lullabies made of “Miracle” a visual and musical work of art as well as a gift from Dion to her own child and to mothers and children all over the world. For the musical part of the project, Dion called her old friend David Foster, for help. “Miracle” was released in the fall of 2004 and it became an out of the box success with platinum-plus sales and top positions on the worldwide charts.
Foster, together with his partner in crime, Humberto Gatica, created a perfect musical scenario for Dion’s outstanding voice. The selection of songs includes sweet and tender melodies that are performed by the singer with an understated feel and produced and arranged by Foster with taste and class.
Among the gems on the album are gentle covers of John Lennon’s “Beautiful Boy” and Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World.” “Miracle” also includes new material written especially for the occasion like the title track penned by Linda Thompson and Steve Dorff or “In Some Small Way” co-written by Richard Page and David Tyson. One of the highlights of “Miracle” is “If I Could.” It is a stunning melody co-written by Ron Miller, the renowned composer of “For Once In My Life” and “I’ve Never Been To Me.” The lyrics of this songs are especially meaningful given they were written by Miller for his own wife and children. Foster’s arrangement is outstanding, elegant and rarefied. It gives Dion a great background for her heartfelt singing.
This song and the whole record are also clear evidence that Celine Dion delivers her best performances when she has David Foster and Humberto Gatica behind the glass.

Lyrics
If I Could
I’d protect you from the sadness in your eyes
give you courage in a world of compromise
yes I would
If I could
I would teach you all the things I’ve never learned
and I’d help you cross the bridges that I’ve burned
yes I would
if I could
I would try to shield your innocence from time
but the part of life I gave you isn’t mine
I’ve watched you grow
so I could let you go
if I could
I would help you make it through the hungry years
but I know that I can never cry your tears
but I would
if I could
if I live in a time and place where you don’t want to be
you don’t have to walk along this road with me
my yesterday won’t have to be your way
if I knew
how I’d try to change the world I brought you to
and there isn’t very much that I can do
but I would
if I could
if I could
I would try to shield your innocence from time
but that part of life I gave you isn’t mine
I watched you grow so I could let you go
if, if I could
I would help you make it through those hungry years
but I know that I can never cry your tears
but I would
if I could
yes I would
yes I would
if I could
