HEART TO HEART

from KENNY LOGGINS AND FRIENDS
Written by Kenny Loggins, David Foster & Michael McDonald

Kenny Loggins is a true legend of American pop music. His countless hits helped shape the soundtrack of our lives in the seventies and the eighties.

Back in August 2016, this gifted singer/songwriter performed a special concert in Chicago named Kenny Loggins And Friends that showcased several special guests. First aired on TV in the spring of 2017, the program was eventually released in a CD/DVD edition. Kenny Loggins And Friend swas a celebration of Loggins’ long and successful career from the Loggins & Messina days to his most recent work with names like fusion wizard Thundercat and his country/pop trio with Blue Sky Riders. The bill wouldn’t have been perfect without two special friends and frequent Loggins’ collaborators; Michael McDonald and David Foster. Both music legends co-wrote gems through the years with the “Celebrate Me Home” composer. The former Doobie Brother co-penned with Loggins perennial hits like “What A Fool Believes” and “This Is It” while the Hitman collaborated on hit ballads like “Forever” and “The Real Thing.” All the aforementioned classics were rightly performed on Kenny Loggins And Friends.

There was a big hit that those three gentlemen co-wrote back in 1982; “Heart To Heart.” This superb quality pop gem was executed on that special Chicago evening with Foster performing on acoustic piano and McDonald playing electric piano while sharing lead vocals with Loggins. “Heart To Heart” was one of the compositions that defined the so-called West Coast pop genre. This ear-candy pop music had jazzy harmonies and inventive time changes. Watching those three music geniuses on stage performing “Heart To Heart” can only be described as a big thrill for many fans and music lovers. The original version went to #15 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and #3 on the Adult Contemporary charts, but it also entered the R&B chart where it reached #71. Go to the archives to read more about this special song and enjoy its timeless groove.

Let’s also give a nod to Loggins’ backing band who proved to be top-notch and on fire throughout the program. They were under the direction of the ultra-talented bass player and singer, Shem von Schroeck. Schroeck is currently on tour with Toto.

Lyrics

You ain’t crazy
I ain’t gonna lie anymore
What you’re feelin’
there’s a reason for
I want to do right
Oh, I gotta do right
Do I love you?
Oh, you know I’ve tried
But what you’re after
You can’t find in my eyes
I want to do right
Darlin’
Tell the truth
Don’t turn away
This is our last chance
To touch each others hearts
Does anything last forever?
I don’t know
Maybe we’re near the end
Darlin’ oh how can we go on together
Now that we’ve grown apart
Well the only way to start
Is heart to heart
One by one
We’re collecting lies
When you can’t give love
You give alibis
Now I’m gonna do right
This time I gotta do right
I don’t want to leave
I don’t want to say good-bye
But sooner or latter
There comes a time
When you gotta do right
Darlin’
Tell the truth
Don’t turn away
This is our last chance
To touch each others hearts
Does anything last forever?
I don’t know
Maybe we’re near the end
Darlin’ how can we go on together
Now that we’ve grown apart
Well the only way to start
Is heart to heart
Why are you so torn apart?
I need a little more lovin’ in my heart
People say that love will grow
So how was I to know
Love that’s come through years and years
Can’t find a way back home anymore
(SOLO)
Darlin’
Tell the truth
Don’t turn away
This is our last chance
To touch each others hearts
Does anything last forever?
I don’t know
But maybe we’re near the end
So darlin’ oh how can we go on together
Now that we’ve grown apart
Well the only way to start
Is heart to heart
Does anything last forever?
I don’t know
But maybe we’re near the end
So darlin’ oh how can we go on together
Now that we’ve grown apart
Well the only way to start
Is heart to heart
