from FROM THE SOUL OF A MAN
Written by Diane Warren

Kenny Lattimore is a talented American r&b singer. He started his recording career in the second half of the nineties with a string of albums and singles that built him a solid reputation among international soul music audiences. Among his hit r&b songs were the Grammy-nominated top three hit, “For You” and top twenty hit, “Never Too Busy.”

In 1998, Mr. Lattimore released his sophomore album, From The Soul Of A Man. This tasteful traditional soul collection included several great love songs that showcased the singer’s warm tenor that often evolved into a crystal-clear falsetto. The result was a flawless vocal performance in the best tradition of black legends like Al Green and the late Marvin Gaye (1939 to 1984). Among the highlights was a well-dosed cover of Al Kooper’s classic “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know,” first recorded by Blood, Sweat & Tears in 1968 and popularized later by the late, great Donny Hathaway (1945 to 1979). Other good cuts were the two singles, “Days Like This” and “If I Lose My Woman,” that reached the higher halves of the Hot Dance Music/Club Play and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles charts respectively.

One welcome surprise on Mr. Lattimore’s From The Soul Of A Man was the closing track, “If You Could See You (Through My Eyes).” Written by Diane Warren, the queen of hit ballads, and produced by two geniuses like David Foster and Walter Afanasieff, “If You Could See You (Through My Eyes)” was a catchy ballad that bore tremendous hit potential. This pristine production by two kings of the pop charts like Foster and Afanasieff remained a hidden track on From The Soul Of A Man by, strangely enough, not being mentioned in the tracklist. This ear-candy ballad featuring one of Ms. Warren’s killer melodies and refrains. Mr. Lattimore’s remarkable vocal prowess was brought to the max by Foster’s direction while Afanasieff delivered the goods in the instrumental backing track. “If You Could See You (Through My Eyes)” becomes another lucky chance to appreciate the golden collaboration between the Hitman and Afanasieff that has resulted in great music from stars including Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Natalie Cole and Kenny G.

From The Soul Of A Man reached #15 on the R&B chart and #71 on Billboard’s Top 200. Recently, Mr. Lattimore released his new cd titled Vulnerable. Like its predecessors, it’s a good opportunity to appreciate the beautiful voice of one of the best r&b singers of this generation.

Lyrics

You don’t know all the beauty you posses inside
You just can’t see what I see in you
I see everything I’ve needed
I see my reason for breathing

You’re the only one who holds my world in their hands
You’re everything I am

And if you could see you through my eyes
You’d see someone beautiful
On the inside and outside
So beautiful, you will know how I feel
You’d see, you’d see how much you mean to me

If you could see you through my eyes
If you could see you

You should know no one else could ever take your place
Don’t think I’ll ever stop needing you
I need everything about you
Can’t see a life lived without you

You’re my only heaven
You’re my world, you’re my dream
You’re everything to me

And if you could see you through my eyes
You’d see someone beautiful
On the inside and outside
So beautiful, you will know how I feel

You’d see, you’d see how much you mean to me

If you could see you through my eyes

You would see, you would see
What you mean, mean to me
You would know
There’s no one else I need

You would feel, what I feel
You would know
There’s no way to change
This love I have inside

And if you could see you through my eyes
You’d see someone beautiful
On the inside and outside
So beautiful, you will know how I feel
You’d see, you’d see how much you mean to me

If you could see you through my eyes
You’d see someone beautiful
On the inside and outside
So beautiful, you will know how I feel
You’d see, you’d see how much you mean to me

If you could see you through my eyes
If you could see you, oh through my eyes
If you could see you through my eyes
Oh, through my eyes
