PROMISE ME

from POPSTARS

written by David Foster & Linda Thompson

Eden’s Crush was a pop group made of five girls selected on the television series “Popstars” that aired in the US in early 2001. “Popstar” was an international franchise that can be considered a precursor for hit shows like American Idol and X Factor. David Foster supervised the American version of the show and his sister Jaymes was one of the judges. Foster’s 143 Records also released Eden’s Crush  record in May 2001. Aptly entitled “Popstars,” the album presented a varied selection of well-dosed pop/dance songs mostly meant for young audiences and radio playing, not far from the sound of successful groups like “The Spice Girls.”

There are ballads, pop up-tempos and dance numbers on “Popstars” that showcase the girls’ pretty good voices. The first single, “Get Over Yourself,” a catchy pop ditty, reached # 8 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and topped the Singles chart in Canada. The second single, a  pop ballad entitled “Love This Way” was co-produced by Foster with Matthew Gerrard and puts the spotlight on the group’s remarkable vocal harmonies. Foster also produced and co-wrote with Linda Thompson, another nice ballad entitled “Promise Me.” Again, Foster gives the five singers plenty of room to shine both individually and with their effective harmonies. “Promise Me” echoes Foster’s hit work with Brandy and All-4-One and it’s easily the best track on the album. “Popstars” was certified gold in the US and climbed to #6 on Billboard’s 200 album chart.
One of Eden’s Crush members, Nicole Scherzinger, will become famous first as a member of The Pussycat Dolls and later on as one of the judges of the American X-Factor.

Lyrics

I can’t see tomorrow
What the future holds
But I believe my heart knows enough
Though sometimes I’m confused
And I guess I stand to lose
I don’t want to risk missing your sweet love
And ooh if I knew
Everything would end soon
I’d still choose to be with you

I can feel your body
Promise me the pleasure
Move me even closer to you
I can read your mind and
I believe it’s time too
You don’t have to ask
Just promise me this time won’t be the last time
Ooh ooh

Promise me forever
Don’t just say “whatever”
A broken vow is better than none
Don’t dare leave me to feel
As if you were not real
We both know this memory will live on
And ooh if I knew
Everything would end soon
I’d still fall into your love

I can feel your body
Promise me the pleasure
Move me even closer to you
I can read your mind and
I believe it’s time too
You don’t have to ask
Just promise me this time won’t be the
Promise me this night won’t be the last time baby

Promise me this night won’t be the last
Promise me this night won’t be the last
Promise me this night won’t be the last

And ooh if I knew
Everything would end soon
I’d still choose to be with you

I can feel your body
Promise me the pleasure
Move me even closer to you
I can read your mind and
I believe it’s time too
You don’t have to ask
Just promise me this time won’t be the last

I can feel your body
Promise me the pleasure
Move me even closer to you
I can read your mind and
I believe it’s time too
You don’t have to ask
Just promise me this time won’t be the last time
Just promise me this time won’t be the last time
