BACK STABBERS

from  SOUL 2

written by Leon Huff, Gene Mcfadden & John Whitehead

November 2011 saw the release of  Seal’s new album entitled “Soul 2.” It seemed like an obvious choice after the huge success of its 2008 predecessor, “Soul” and the relative disappointment of “Commitment” in 2010. Both “Soul” and “Commitment” were perfectly produced by David Foster but the first included great covers of the most famous soul evergreens of the sixties and the seventies while the second was mostly made of intimate new songs co-written by the UK superstar. “Soul 2” presented another batch of soul classics but this time around the focus was more on the seventies.

SOMETHING’S MISSING (IN MY LIFE)

from KEEPING TIME

written Paul Jabara & Jay Asher

The late Paul Jabara was a talented singer, songwriter and actor who wrote or co-wrote, in the second half of the seventies, timeless disco hits like “Last Dance” for Donna Summer, “Main Event/Fight” for Barbra Streisand, “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)” for Summer and Streisand and “(It’s) Raining Men” for The Weather Girls.

A LOVE THAT WILL LAST

from I’LL TAKE ROMANCE

written David Foster & Linda Thompson

Veteran singer and music-maker, Steve Tyrell is one of the most successful jazz/pop crooners of the past twenty years. This Grammy winning artist started his career as music producer and songwriter for big names like Blood, Sweat & Tears, B.J. Thomas, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt and Rod Stewart. Tyrell made his debut as jazz singer in 1999 with “A New Standard,” a collection that included covers of a dozen standards.

ONE DAY YOU WILL

from ONE WISH

written Diane Warren

One Wish,” released in 1998, was the sophomore release by Canadian R&B singer/songwriter, Deborah Cox. Her record label, Arista Records, tried to market her as the new Whitney Houston thanks to her impressive voice and gorgeous looks and even though she didn’t become a superstar, she did reach a good level of popularity with this album. “One Wish” was well received and eventually certified platinum while it also reached #14 on the R&B albums chart.
