Released in the fall of 1995, “Runaway” was the debut single by The Corrs. It was taken from their David Foster produced debut album, “Forgiven Not Forgotten.”
“Runaway” was written by The Corrs, beautifully sung by Andrea Corr and offered international audiences the group’s winning blend of traditional Irish music with catchy pop and sweet vocal harmonies. It became a Top Ten hit in Ireland and Australia and had good success in the U.S. where it reached #68 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and #20 on the Adult Contemporary Chart. Foster’s work was very respectful of the group’s musical roots while obviously adding his golden touch with the polished production and high-tech sounds. In 1999, after The Corrs big break with their partially Foster produced sophomore album, “Talk On Corners,” “Runaway” was re-released in a remixed version by Tin Tin Out. The new version skyrocketed to #2 on the UK singles charts and went on to sell more than 200,000 copies. Both the group’s Foster produced albums became smash hits in several countries and overall sold more than 16 million copies worldwide to date.
