CANZONI STONATE

From AMORE

Written by Mogol & Aldo Donati

Released in January of 2006, “Amore” marked another collaboration between Italian classical/pop superstar Andrea Bocelli and David Foster. This new release was a collection of some of the world’s most celebrated love songs including “Besame Mucho,” “L’Appuntamento” and “Les Feuilles Mortes.“

The Italian tenor, masterfully guided by Foster, performed the material with a pop sensibility that’s nowhere to be found among the most celebrated opera singers. Stars like Placido Domingo or the late Luciano Pavarotti tended to sound a bit restrained when singing pop songs. However, Bocelli’s voice fits them like a glove, at absolute ease in both worlds, pop and classical.

The songs’ selection, carefully picked by Bocelli, Foster and co-producers Humberto Gatica and Tony Renis, offers moments of pure delight like “Somos Novios,” a duet with Christina Aguilera, “Estate,” a show stopper performed by Bocelli with guest trumpeter Chris Botti, and “Besame Mucho,” where the singer’s smooth performance reminds the listener of the world renowned Julio Iglesias. Also included is “Because We Believe,” co-written by Foster, Bocelli and Foster’s daughter, Amy Foster Gilles, and the theme for Turin’s 2006 Olympic Winter Games.
“Because We Believe” gives Bocelli the chance to fully showcase his powerful, operatic voice while maintaining a definite pop flair. One of the highlights of “Amore” is “Canzoni Stonate.” The Italian pop song was given a delicious bossa treatment by Foster with a musical performance of rare elegance. Bocelli’s smooth singing is supported by the legendary Stevie Wonder on harmonica and vocals creating a piece of pure bliss!

“Amore” was a worldwide chart topper selling several million copies. The Latin market version entitled “Amor” sold two millions in the US alone. Foster’s outstanding playing of the majority of keyboards on the album is supported by a super band that included Nathan East, Vinnie Colaiuta, Randy Waldman, Michael Thompson, Paulinho Da Costa and Rafael Padilla. A special mention must be made to Dean Parks and Ramon Stagnaro’s for their amazing work on acoustic guitar.

Lyrics

Canto solamente insieme a pochi amici
Quando ci troviamo a casa
e abbiam bevuto
Non pensare che ti abbiam dimenticato
Proprio ieri sera
parlavamo di te

Camminando verso casa mi
sei tornata in mente
A letto mi son girato
e non ho detto niente
E ho ripensato alla tua voce
così fresca e strana
Che dava al nostro gruppo qualcosa di più

Enrico che suona,
sua moglie fa il coro
Giovanni come sempre ascolta
stonato com’è

Canzoni d’amore
che fanno ancora bene al cuore
Noi stanchi ma contenti
Se chiudi gli occhi forse
tu ci senti anche da lì

L’altra domenica siamo andati al lago
Ho preso anche un luccio grande
Che sembrava un drago
Poi a sera in treno
abbiam cantato piano
Quel pezzo Americano
che cantavi tu

Canzoni stonate
parole sempre un po’sbagliate
Ricordi quante serate
passate così

Se chiudi gli occhi forse
tu ci senti anche da lì
Canzoni d’amore
che fanno ancora bene al cuore
diciamo quasi sempre
qualche volta no qualche volta no

Canzoni stonate
parole sempre un po’sbagliate

Ricordi quante serate
passate così
