From ELECTRIC UNIVERSE
Written by David Foster, Maurice White & Allee Willis

In the first half of the Eighties Prince took the music world by the storm with his innovative, heavily programmed, synth-funk stuff. Many r&b acts followed this new trend including one of the most refined, elegant groups: Earth, Wind & Fire. Maurice White, probably feeling that his band wasn’t that hip anymore, decided a drastic change in the sound of their 1983 release entitled “Electric Universe.”The result was a hybrid record that only kept the trademark vocal harmonies but traded its wonderful fat sounds and horn section for some bloodless synthesizers. The production relied too much heavily on programmed drums and synths. This way the good material included didn’t display its full potential and didn’t satisfy the band’s fan base. “Electric Universe” went nowhere on the charts and consequently the band decided to go on hiatus for a few years. Among the songs on the album there are a few good moments like the danceable single “Magnetic” and the nice uptempo “Moonwalk.” “Electric Universe” also includes a couple of David Foster goodies, “Spirit Of A New World” and “Could It Be Right.” The first is a techno/funky jam while the second, a gorgeous ballad cowritten with Allee Willis, is the true highlight of the album. The
smart melody and superb vocal harmonies can hold up against EWF’s masterpieces like “After The Love Is Gone” or “Reasons.” Foster’s keyboards gives some more depth to this sublime production that unfortunately got lost into the bad performance of its parent album but that’s a true joy to listen to.

Lyrics

If I came to you and I
Said you are my desire
Would it last forever
If I tell you endlessly
How much you mean to me
Will you stay forever
You and I together
Love changes lives for better
Dreams are made to let in
Let’s take a ride to heaven
Hold me
Shine your love tonight
Tender in the light
While we’re dancing
Hold me
Deep inside your heart
I wonder in the dark
Could it be right
(Could it be right)
Could it be right
(Could it be right)
You can make my life a song
Where nothing can go wrong
As long as we’re together
I will take away the pain
Be your shelter from the rain
We can hide together
To the door
You lead me
Somehow I know you need me
Hold me
Shine your love tonight
Tender in the light
While we’re dancing

Hold me
Deep inside your heart
I wonder in the dark
Could it be right
(Could it be right)
Could it be right
(Could it be right)
Time will take us away
Give us reason to fight for love today
I’ll keep on pushing
To be close to you
I wanna hear you say
(Could it be right)
Could it be right
(Could it be right)
Could it be right
Hold me
Shine your love tonight
Tender in the light
While we’re dancing
Hold me
Deep inside your heart
I wonder in the dark
Could it be right
Hold me
Shine your love tonight
Tender in the light
While we’re dancing
Hold me
Deep inside your heart
I wonder in the dark
Could it be right
Hold me
Deep inside your heart
I wonder in the dark
Could it be right
