From SOLITUDE/SOLITAIRE
Written by David Foster, Peter Cetera & Diane Nini

Peter Cetera released his first, self-titled solo album in 1981. After Chicago’s giant comeback with “Chicago 16″ and “Chicago 17,” he leftthe band in 1985 and started recording his second solo project, “Solitude/Solitaire,” with Michael Omartian. The new producer, a fellow Chicagoan, was the best possible choice. He had a proven track record as a big producer for Christopher Cross, Donna Summer and Rod Stewart that gave him plenty of success and Grammys. Cetera may have also preferred a departure from the recent Chicago albums, going for a traight pop/rock sound without any horns or jazz flavor. Although David Foster was busy working on Chicago’s new album, he managed to co-write the first single and mega-hit, “Glory Of Love,” with Cetera and Diane Nini, Cetera’s wife at the time. The song is a smooth ballad in the same vein as other Foster/Cetera collaborations like “Hard To Say I’m Sorry” and “You’re The Inspiration.” Exactly like those previous songs, “Glory Of Love” quickly became a hit in 1986, reaching #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts. Additionally, the song was the theme for the hit movie “The Karate Kid Part 2″ and was nominated for an Academy Award.
Following the big success of “Glory Of Love” was a duet with Amy Grant entitled “The Next Time I Fall,” co-written by Bobby Caldwell and Paul Gordon. This second release also zoomed to #1 while the album reached #28 and was a platinum seller. This collection was filled with good pop stuff. We would especially like to mention the pop/dance number, “Wake Up To Love,” co-written with Omartian and Rufus’ member David “Hawk” Wolinski.

Lyrics

Tonight it’s very clear
As we’re both lying here
There’s so many things I want to say
I will always love you
I would never leave you alone

Sometimes I just forget
Say things I might regret
It breaks my heart to see you crying
I don’t wanna lose you
I could never make it alone

I am a man who will fight for your honor
I’ll be the hero you’re dreaming of
We’ll live forever
Knowing together that we
Did it all for the glory of love

You’ll keep me standing tall
You’ll help me through it all
I’m always strong when you’re beside me
I have always needed you
I could never make it alone

I am a man who will fight for your honor
I’ll be the hero you’ve been dreaming of
We’ll live forever
Knowing together that we
Did it all for the glory of love

Just like a knight in shining armor
From a long time ago
Just in time I will save the day
Take you to my castle far away

I am a man who will fight for your honor
I’ll be the hero you’re dreaming of
We’re gonna live forever
Knowing together that we
Did it all for the glory of love

We’ll live forever
Knowing together that we
Did it all for the glory of love

We did it all for love
We did it all for love
We did it all for love
We did it all for love
